This one owner from new beetle was involved in a side swipe recently which left it looking rather sorry for itself. After the owner told the emergency services to under no circumstances cut the roof off to get her out, the damage to the vehicle was too much for her to look at, so it quickly arrived at our workshop.
Our job was to make this beetle look as it had done before the accident. Easier said than done when this beetle is very original and most pattern parts don't fit these older 60's bugs and the fact that this beetle has been loved and cherrished since the day it left the factory 40 years ago. Never the less we went to it!
Once the outer skin was removed, the damage was found to be not as bad as first thought, the rear half of the heater channel needed to be replaced. We decided on only doing half the channel as the front half was so solid and still straight it didn't warrant all the disruption. We were also lucky to find the the window appature was not misshappen which helped loads when fitting a new rear 1/4 panel as the new panels are designed to the later 70's beetles and therefoe all the lines are different. Not having a damaged window appature meant we could graft the flat part of the new panel in before any body lines became involved. Some inner support parts were recovered from a donor car to rebuild the bent metal.
The beetle is now finished and back with its proud owner.
